Abstract
Ch. XVI
What renders the topic of peculiar importance
is that the rise of prices has grown to be the
subject of peculiar complaint peculiar grievance of the period of
time at which the last hand comes to be put
to the present papers: and though this pressure
has evidently for its cause in a certain degree in part at least the succession
of an indifferent season to a bad one,
yet as to other part it will a cause which of course is hoped and expected to
be but a temporary one, yet in other part also it
would be found to result from the influx of money
and from other causes of inconvenience with from which the
indisputable increase of general prosperity
can never not be kept altogether clear by all
the utmost exertions of human prudence.
Proceeding then Assuming then that things
not come to such a pass that a sensible an extra rise
of prices to a degree beyond what would otherwise
have taken place appears about to ensue take place
unless prevented, in consequence of the operation
of this paper, I shall proceed directly to enquire
by what necessary and proper and sufficient
means such prevention may be effected. accomplished.
provision may be made to that end.
