Relation Bearing of the

to upon the doctrines
of Adam Smith
In the main the positions contained in these papers
will be found accordant with the doctrine of Adam
Smith. To a classic of such high and deserved
repute I should have contented myself by a simple
reference could it have been given, would a great
deal of dry and obscure discussion might have
been spared. Such reference would accordingly have
been made had the views given of the subject in that
work appeared uniformly just, adequate and intelligible.
For my own part I must confess, I never was
able to obtain what to me appeared a clear insight
into this part of the subject, from the instructions
of Adam Smith. Figures about Adaptations taken from wheels and

and exemplification. The Paradoxical views though

the preference over the simple and instructive
Multiplicity of words appeared sometimes to have
been employd as it were by distress in the course
of the efforts produced as it were by distress, for
want of the few words, which had the views been
perfectly clear would have sufficed.
would have superseded
the multiplicity with
advantage..
