Annuity Notes
Ch. Miscell. Effects.

Note

Adam Smith
7 (a)
Continued

It is only in the shape of gold and silver that the
supposed sudden accession can be exported: neither
Bank nor or Banker's paper nor Annuity Note paper
can be expected to be taken in any quantity worth
considering in this point of view by foreigners resident
abroad. But this does not render the supposition
of an export to this the supposed amount an impossible supposition,
in the case where the shape in which it flows
in is that of paper: since in this case, though
the paper will not be exported, an equal quantity
of the money gold and silver preexisting in the country at the time
of the supposed accession will be exported and
in lieu of it.
