What power have they over the people +? What hand + ergo important
would now arm itself with a dagger at their command?
What pretence have they to exercise
the right of thinking +? they have sold it - over ergo ridiculous people would not give them credit in the voting of honour - ergo no motive
and ever they must have sold it e'er they got them.

To think to do this with the people may not always
equitable any more than safe - but there
men ?

Are they not his master's furniture? - are were they not transmitted
in the inventory of his suspicion? Have they not vowed
him their obedience? why else do they come <unclear>third to</unclear>
what else do they ever do there? are they not bound
to him by private gratitude the only one of the few generous principle,
which mind, insensible alike to the of public utility
and ignorant of its' dictates, can know have not cast off?

But they have votes - those who pay them obedience
for a feeble participation of [the satisfactions who many they may really influence one way, that they good their own another way by compulsion
of] their tyranny. have votes - But have none
of the people who [sensible of the indignation motivations of the rights of reason
votes for? I hope they will shew they have.

Patriotism incompatible with the Clerical3
Character

finding by accident the interests of liberty combinedinterwoven with that 7 Bishops & Dr Walker of Londonderry

Patriots.II
II Had Religion between out of the question, their conduct could we has safe share it continuing to probability to have been maintained would have given scandal as much as it has excited admiration )

That ingenious man +, + Horne too mal, too violent, too
candid, too remindful of private injuries too limited in his prospects of reformation, too
imprudent, too importe against a person whose
station deserved pity, and whose character respect
is not to be cited as an exampleIII- It was not by in III N.B. a Salve for his integrity as only opportunity stand by him and not lend a colour to the imputations of insincerity
adhering to the character of the profession, that he became
what he has been, but by departing from it

It is remarkable that the only two persons++ who ever ++ Churchill
made the experiment have found that this profession
as at present modelled, is not one who
in whichfor a man who feels for the public to remain in can continue.

I might here add # # Lind

What allegiance do they see the those from whom they have
Dissenters having no protection owe no allegiance.
less than nothing do they owe owe nothing to the Government which has proscribed
them: but every thing to the wisdom & humanity of the
people which continue to support them against the whose wisdom &humanity is their protection
violence of its allies.

Horne from p. 3
Accordingly when that celebrated stood for this & spoke out stood up boldly
in defence of what he took to be the interests of civil
liberty, without in plain intelligible & nervous language
without any Jewish cant +, he was universally understood or Scripture metaphors
to have departed from or rather to have shaken off
the Ecclesiastical Character: still more when it was known when seeing the incompatibility
of that character with all the generous
feelings of a free citizen, he had boastedhimself (to the man
whose confidence he sought)th to be free from the
taint that is communicated "by the infectious hand
of a Bishop", it afforded a favourable occasion to
men who were well known to have the sameanother opinion
of the influence of such an hand that what he
had avowed, to brand him with the name
of "Atheist" the Atheist Parson, was the Watchword+.+ Cry

... base enough to lend (sell) himself to their views!
Light and darkness are more opposite than
the clerical orthodox and the patriotic character are inconsistent - The one
presupposes servility - the other independence.
By what charge rule of presumption should we be expect
that the presumption should inspire into his pupil
sentiments the antipodes of his own?

I will not stop to consider

The rare examples of those who more faithful to them
trust them to their profession, have met with that
sort of thanks that is may be supposed to be the lot of those, whom to
have mentioned in terms of approbation, has been in the motive of
made a crime
