It is drawing rather too deep rather too much upon the credulity of mankind
to think so much the profit of tyranny with the honour of
moderation

They invite every man We give the invitation to all and their wish our in order to the end is that no
man may accept it the invitation — They desire to Judge us, they
be judged say not by their actions by by their words.

Blinded Led blindfold by malignant passion they trumpet forth their own their plan is to add to the
moderation they enjoyments of tyranny they are not ashamed to challenge the praise of moderation.

Doing the deeds of tyranny With the Reaping the full profit of tyranny
in their hand In the very act of satiating their the malignant passion they challenge the praise of moderation

They give to every man the power of ruining? his neighbour
by law, and their wish is that one man may
make use of it

Tyrants call it moderation & cowards call it
prudence.

It is a sort of composition which tyranny
submitts to enter into with the easiness and incautiousness
of the people.

— and the letter text of the law converted from a guide into a snare

Commute the pleasure of producing occasion
constant destruction to that of producing occasional
destruction and constant insecurity

That the law shall be neither a source repository
of authority nor a vehicle of information: that no
man by looking into the law may be able to have read
what will be his fate — they are content the that the law may shall have
no authority of over the people, nor the people any
confidence in the law.

Sleeping
Laws

The only argument
in favour of such laws
is that which these
laws themselves create
and which were they
abolished would die
with them. Hence
against when such
laws have been made are kept up
may not unreasonably
be accounted .
What it is possible
to do to create enmity
these laws have done.
If such provocation
has not been able
to produce enmity
where would enmity
be, were the provocation
made to
cease?

It is possible that
maintenance
of this barbarous timidity
cowardice should have had some
share; for betwixt
tyranny and cowardice
there is a alliance
but it is not probable:
the loss is as tyranny the
rather than forego its behold its
least insatiate gratification, it will
put in the mark of
cowardice

While they are quiet
you see they do not
suffer: if ever they stir
they will deserve to suffer.
Thus whether they are quiet
or unquiet such is always for ever
to be their fate.
