perjury and subornation equivocation of perjury are venial

It should seem that at some remote period
there had existed somebody or other connected in whose opinion
had a certain degree of influence some way or other with the University, according in
whose estimation the sin of perjury was not altogether
a matter of indifference . but in the current
abridgment immediately after the body of the laws
comes a paper without author and without date
the professed object of which is to give an explanation
of the oath in question shewing how
far it is binding and how far it is to be regarded
as a collection of words without a meaning.
It stiles itself in lavish words and
characters : literally an appendix to the
laws; in plain English or as might be stiled an apology for perjury
and a lesson of equivocation.

It divides into classes such of the articles the
violation non-observance of which is to be deemed
an infringement of the oath by which a man
binds himself to observe them "all" without exception:
