understand not greek
yet if he believe
in the testament
his intensity in

he supposes to agree

Suppose a To a person who has no acquaintance with
the Greek language, suppose a text of those contained of the New Testament,
printed out in the original Greek. If by any means
whatsoever whatsoever - from his own study of the translati <add> any English translation of it, or by his confidence in the persuasion declared on that behalf by others</add> he has brought into a persuasion that the con
of that sacred volume the contents are true,
and that to all material purposes the import contained
in the original and that contained in this translation
are the same, his persuasion in the case of the persuasion which he
will naturally entertain of the truth of any every proposition

from this utter incapacity he is in of forming framing to himself any
conception of the import of that text receive any abatement.

more intense, as

doubts as to parts of the
translation which
affect not the original

In so far as there is any difference his confidence persuasion
of the truth of in the perfectly uncomprehended original will would be more
inten intense than - his persuasion of the truth of the more or
less adequately comprehended translation. For of to the
text in question should it happen to be of the number
