167 Feby 1813 Church II Topics Ch.6. Declaration (7)

In a neighboring country pass it proof is
the self deceiving process to any comment of

That political power
that has such power
over pe persuasion is
not very conciliatory
The more disastrous
the result of it the more
should every friend
of mankind endeavour,
to stop the
growth of it this &
root it out wherever
found.

That the influence of force of political power - to
whatsoever purposes bad as well as good or bad - that thence the influence power
of misrule over opinion: and thence over conduct
and over being and well being should be so great mighty - so irresistible -
is no very far indeed from being reflection. But
the more disastrous the result, the more hardly efficaciously
adapted to every pernicious purpose that power is
the more strongly bonds every lover of his country and or of mankind
is of his country is called upon to use employ his utmost exertion in the endeavour
not only to stop growth of so mischievous a weed to stop the progress of this [vehicle] of mischief,
but to root the rooting of it out wherever it is to be found.
