§.1. Ab
Subscriptions & Creeds
Is it that in this or that one each of them there is something
which in this or that other there is not: and the is not in any of the others: whereby pro tanto, they
though no one of them be incorrect they are
each and every of them incompleat.
14 12
Are Does every
one include what the
others do not,— & conse
thus though correct they
are not each compleat.
If say you by whom this account is given of
them, do you what they respectively express and declare
does it to your mind seem intelligible. If not
intelligible then so far at least whatsoever use can ever have been
looked for in them is at an end: if yes intelligible, then
as by before instead of cramming us with the whole mass
of which which in part by your own account of the matter a part is is in part
useless, discard those propositions whatsoever is superfluous
discard in one or other those propositions which according to
you are identical, in the first place not to avoid imposing
upon the conception a useless task and upon the memory
a useless burthen, in the next place were it only to
preserve them prevent it against from imputed diversity, of which as
above, error must be can not but be the consequence.
15 13
If so — & they are
not intelligible
here use is at an end
if not intelligible cast
out the useless parts
of each superfluous
of each : the
propositions to avoid
imposing useless labour
& to avoid imputed
diversity & consequent
error.
