§.1. Abstract fitness
Part Subscriptn & Creeds

The holy Catholic Church! another subject of belief
viz. in two of these creeds, the Pseudo-Apostles' and the Nicene
the Pseudo-Athanasian saying nothing of about the matter

Holy catholic church
a subject of belief per
Pseudo-Apostles &
Nicene Creeds

Applied to Church, Catholic in its original and general acceptation
means universally universal: in its particular and modern
acceptation, Roman or Popish, in contradistinction to
the several Churches, established and nonestablished that have separated from it

Catholic means originally
universal — in its
particular sense the
Romish Church

Thus corruption in both its forms intellectual and moral
the poison of corruption may be injected into the blood at the
tenderest and most susceptible age belief in the Holy Catholic
Church is among the falshoods which the infant lips are made
to lisp. The Church of Rome — the Church of England
the Church of Scotland for example not to speak of any other
Churches non-established or established — are they all one
and the same Church? or are they different ones? If
different one there is but one that is holy Catholic as
well as holy which is it?

This one of
the corruptive
falsoods early instilled
children are early
dosed with Are
all Churches "holy
"Catholic" or which of
them.

Of this sort are the propositions which for the purpose
of guarding preserving them forsooth against error, infant lips and infant
memories are plagued with, as soon as possible after their
Godfathers and Godfathers have promised undertaken in their name, that for
they their renouncing every one of them the flesh they are he is made of, the world
the he is just born into, and in which so long as he lives
he must live — and together with the devil, of which of whom
lest by accident for want of harming him he should join company with him, an engraving
from a picture of St Luke's ought to have been
annext as an inseparable accompaniment to this repository reservoir
of universally-injected learning information.

Such the propositions
to guard him against
error an infant
is made to lisp
as soon as possible
after his relations
have renounced
for him the world
he must live in
& the devil.
