3 Jany 1812 Church III
Ch. 6. Qualif.

3

§.1
P.

Applied to any other subject whatsoever, third, in
comparison of the present day the art of criticism was
at the little further advanced than very little in advance beyond the earliest stage of
infancy — that on subjects of much inferior difficulty
astronomy, mechanical philosophy, chemistry, phy,
medicine and including the of note and sciences
subservient to it scarce a correct was any
where to be found, is what men in general — even
the most bigotted worshippers of and
so preposterously termed antient times, are seldom
backward to acknowledge. Applied to this, exceeding surpassing
all others not less in difficulty than more in importance than in difficulty
this art mask, in the four years of the dawning light that
succeeded the utter darkness of the reign of Mary, the
upholders of the system of Subscription and Creeds, insist
upon our believing and confessing, shot up at once
to that pinnacle of perfection which warrants the application
of punishment to the as well as reward to the
prevention of the offence of him, who presumes shall presume to
apply to the subject that judgment which he is thus
called upon to declare his having applied to it.

As to other any subjects
that criticism was
scarce beyond past its infancy,
that on inferior
subjects astronomy
chemistry &c scarce
a clear idea was to
be found the most
bigotted antient-worshipper
will acknowledge.
Applied to
this most important
subject & difficult
subject —
The upholders of
creeds &c insist on
belief & confession
that in the four
dawning years that succeeded
utter darkness this
art shot up to
the such pinnacle of
perfection that
punishment is
warranted against
those who reapply
to it the human
judgment to the
subject.
