§.1. Abstract fitness.
Part |^^^| Incidences.

☞ Add—To the preservation of sincerity no party could profess indifference
and the only means of preservation is—abstinence from the practice of
purchasing and forcing declarations of persuasion in incomprehensible and
controversial points. Giving licence for ignorance when knowledge is impossible.

To the purpose in question—on the occasion of the proposed
omissions in question. On any of these ous subjects, by
By the ruling few powers no change not any the
least change of sentimental opinion need to be or ought
to be professed: on the subject many—in any one individual
of the subject many not any the least change
of opinion ought to need or ought to be called for
or so much as declared to be regarded as desirable.
On the contrary, declaration should be made in express
terms that by the omission no condemnation in any one instance is intended
to be passed on any one of the propositions that may have
been considered or implied in and by any of the expressions
thus omitted. That on the incomprehensible
points in question so incomp so highly elevated above the
sphere of human comprehension not the announcement inculcating
of any supposed new discovered truths, but constitutes in any part, of the
but object in view, but that the preservation of sincerity
as well and of inward as well as outward peace constitute
the whole of it: that on these several points, even unity of opinion
is given up as being either useless or hopeless: declaration of
unity, without the unity itself, as being much worse
than useless

To this purpose

it might be
specified that no
declaration condemnation is
passed on them
but that they
are omitted for the
preservation of
sincerity & peace,
& a unity being
hopeless or useless
& false declaration
of it worse.
