Both cases — that of subscription required and that
of Recantation exacted have this in common, viz. that
of that which is by authority of the ruling few assented and [called for required to be done at the hands
of the subject many] of productive of mendacity if not the a
main and ultimate object is at any rate a certain neverfailing fruit.
In the extent of the field — and in the degree of efficiency of the on
the part of the instrument employed, depends depend the only
difference differences.

1. In the case of subscription — at least in the applications
that have been customarily been made of that
instrument of corruption no nothing in the shape of transgression is implied
no application of the matter of evil in the shape of
matter of punishment: no application but of the matter
of good, viz. in the shape of the matter of reward:
