Church Ch Recantation

4

In the first case the act of imputed political guilt and consequent
punishment of heresy lays open to the is spread over
the whole population: in the other case its range is
confined to the sacerdotal order and those who enlist
themselves under its banners.

Whatsoever be the extent given to its application within that
extent its efficiency of the instrument, it is evident, can not but be
considerably greater than in the field of Recantation
than in the field of Subscription: in the case above
to the force of reward that of punishment is added
than in the case where the force employed is no other
than that of reward where the force of the reward is applied
alone.

True it is that in so far as, expectation as above + is defeated
+ Ch.
and the consequent pain of punishment has takes place, subtraction
of reward produces the effect of punishment, and
reward and punishment run indistinguishably into each
other. But in the instance of one by whom the act of
subscription has been performed, and in consequence of that
Act a benefice been obtained, suppose an act of heresy
committed, and conviction having taken place, the
benefice forward of recantation taken away, of by the
consequence of punishment thus inflicted the pain produced
will naturally be much heavier more severe greater than the
pain produced by the any bar opposed in the first instance to his entrance
into the situation to which the prospect of that
benefice is attached.

The value
of the good supposing
it is possession being the
in both cases
the same, pain of non
-acquisition can never
be so great as
pain of loss.
