Introd. 9.
J. B's observation for
half a century has
confirmed his abhorrence
at the tyranny which
compelled insincerity
in his own instance.
The absurdity & mischief
of the propositions,
indignation
& remorse at the
pollution, produced
a determination not
to committ other
acts of insincerity to
support that, & to
do what was possible
towards preserving
others from like
pollution.
10
This first act of insincerity
was the lack
a pition was not
called for -
But without extinction
of social sympathy
the sufferings of
others who had to
undergo this calamity
could not be contemplated
without infamy

-J.B. by childhood &
by that authority of
the will & understanding
of others, & without
encouragement to
resistance had abundance
of excuse - But yet the
suffering was such that
our remembrance can only be extinguished with life

At this time were
expelled fro the 6
young men for Methodism
- i.e. meeting
(sometimes with an
old woman) read
& convene over the
bible. There was insinuated
also that they
held some opinions on Elections &c too
strictly conformable
to the 39 Articles to
be fashionable.
132
J.B. was no methodist
& these poor
creature robbed of
their hopes by priestly
tyranny were unbeknown
to him -
but having derived
from profane learning
hate to tyranny
& from sacred, sympathy
he felt as
expelled with the
Methodists & ranked
owel with the
Lauds & Bonners
13 or 6
He made attempts
at that time fruitless
to write in their
favour - but the
impression remained
& these are some of
the fruits.
14 or 7
For these days also was
put into J,B's hands
- the book of Statutes
with the equivocating
endeavour to
explain the oath taken
on that occasion
& which was
violated daily & hourly
by all who took
it. From this abomination
he was
preserved

Here was a list of
professions (of whom
all would have joined
in the expulsion of
the methodists) a set
of sacred sacrements
the upholders of the
profane ones. p16.

the Bawdy House

Project for combining
peace & attention.
Promise of conformity
to be confined to the
Pulpit. The press
to be left open to
free discussion. Thus
the parishioners
would not be exposed
to obnoxious doctrines
but by their own acts.
