These are transgressions
for the purpose
of it's being desirable to
get rid of them - For
the purpose of punishing
the transgressions
no—not even for the
purpose of condemning them blameworthy
in all the cases. In
which cares blame attaches,
let the reader
answer for himself
at the enquiry without
fractional result, would
not be worth the while.

2 p.26.
Ex. gr. preferment
hunting. Is it desirable
that any part
of the time of a teacher
of Christianity
the whole of which
is purchased by public
money, should be employed in crawling
at the feet of
the patron? Who can affirm this?

3 p.27
Yet it cannot be
said seriously to
any man in this profession,
seek not the
good things of the
world.

4 p.27
In the system must
be looked for the cause
of what is unifies the
only remedys the
melioration of the
system.

5 p. 28
If a system of discipline
were established, having
in the view the
production of all
these imperfections
in what degree would
the efficiency exceed
that of the church
of England system?
p.28

This list of negative
sacerdotal duties,
not useless, not if,
relevant.
The following list
of propositions on
this subject will
where not already
notorious, be put out
of doubt.
p.29

1. The transgressions
in opposition to these
duties, what is is
the tendency of the
church discipline to
produce. In some cases
the transgression is
matter of notoriety
ex, gr.
1. secularism
2. residence
3.
4. Pluralism <lb> In the seven following
instances if the
fact be ever so true,
not only is the quauntum,
but the existence
often to dispute.
Here the facts, and
the tendency of the
discipline to produce
it, will illustrate,
and serve as proof
of each others.
p.29

2. These abuses exist
not in any non established
church indisputably
so as to
the notorious ones,
little less so as to the
others.
p.30
So in the Church of
Scotland. The dispuable
ones will be
seen to have their
root in parts of the
church of England.
This not existing
in the church of Scot-<lb> -land.
