Proposition consisting
do of vendors and keepers
of Burnets Reformation
a Whig, he had the
audacity to represent
English Church as not older
than Ed. 6 or Hen. 8.
while Roman was full
of power, glory & years.
Antecedently however to a any prosecution for any the such offences
a question even of under a system of judication so constituted, an
object for consideration might be whether there might well
be some steps which in the nature of preparatory steps
be a sacrifice of this sort upon the altar of the Church
might not be necessary advisable to be taken or at least conducive. For example One is
the indicting of all booksellers by whom Bishop Burnets
History of the Reformation can be proved to have been sold
as well as the keepers of all libraries public as well as
private in which it is kept. For it is a matter too
notorious to be decried is that this that Bishop, being no better
than a Whig, had the audacity, in times full of sedition
to publish that history of his, in which with all its
holiness this Church is represented as having its beginnings
in the time of Edward the sixth, or at the earliest,
at the time of Henry the eighth, a time when Holy
Mother (it might be dangerous to say his Holy Mother)
was full – not only of power and glory but of years
