Append. III
Dean Andrews
2. Vansittart
Indulgence
Evidence

17

Upon the face of this part of the business what seems
apparent therefore is in the first place that the irrelevancy
of this document to which Mr Vansittart refers
if was forming one part part of the ground of this his
proceeding was so palpable that in the opinion of his
Right Honourable and Cooperator in the business of
the National Society it was better that this document
should remain concealed from all those who in the language
of the Rector of St Jamess are Ale no better than Ale-drinkers
and in the language of the Honourable House whose Members
are have by a fiction of the Honourable House been chosen
by them no better than strangers

2. In the next place agreeing on the maxim with
his said Right Honourable friend and colleague in the
maxim that more of public evil than benefit would
result from the punishment of a person "(if any
person "whose conduct and character and conduct
have been stated" (by any person competent person approved of as such by Mr Vansittart or the
any other Chancellor
of the Exchequer stated

truly or falsely stated
to have been so honourable to himself and beneficial
to the community what appears is that upon
the principle viz another principle of the aforesaid St Paul he that sows shall reap+,
+ Be not deceived
it seemed
to the Right Honourable Speaker to be but common and
biblical scriptural justice to the Right Honourable Chancellor
to give him the benefit of this his own maxim wish, and
spare him in so far as possible the humiliation and
extreme punishment of such an exposure of an exposure
by which he would have been exhibited as confederating
and combining to and with a defendant to reserve from
such said
