said Defendant as and for a justification of a
grant of impunity a document which it was
so impossible for any person really to have viewed in
that light that it was advisable preferable at all hazard
to suppress it.
For this is no mere medium — "The extortioner
"demands" — "the malignant motives" — the resentment
and the extortionate demands — the malignant
motives of the sole and exclusive efficient effective operation of which
though in its nature not capable of being known
otherwise than by express direct revelation from the searcher of
all hearts to whom all hearts are known and from whom
no secrets are hid Mr Vansittart is as sure of as
if it had been made to him revealed to him by an Apostle — on all
none of all these inscrutable matters, unless from a divine revelation
or private whispers from this or that useful friend could
he have formed any conception at all otherwise
than from these unavowable and accordingly suppressed
documents: these documents of which he and
his Right Honourable friend for him were so perfectly ashamed,
and of the consequences of which if disclosed
they were so justly apprehensive
