Anti-reformists Guilty

Applicable then to official espousers especially official
of Law Reform: authors in the way of negative of these

Morn-Chron. July 21, 1829.
Extract from —
"The Belfast Northern Whig of Thursday last
observes, with regard to the late Orange outrages —
"It would be both unjustifiable and untrue
'to attempt to screen the magistracy of this province
'from the heavy responsibility under which
'they labour, when they are arraigned before the bar
'of their God and their country. They may attempt
'to stifle the reproaches of a self-convicting conscience
'by whatever system of sophistry, they
'can call to their aid; they may balance
'the account of life and death, by fleeing for
'safety into the quirks and loop-holes of a loosely
'jointed Act of Parliament; but we tell them,
'the world holds them morally guilty of the blood
'that has been so profusely spilled shed; and the cries
'of the widow and the fatherless will reach
'their uneasy pillow in the silence of night,
'when the stings of an accusing conscience
'shall awaken them to a due sense of the
'deep and heavy responsibility they have
'heaped on their own heads."
