Dear Sir,
The accompanying paper beginning "Codification Proposal"
will speak for itself.
Ever since you left this country I have felt an anxious desire, to follow
the thread of a history so interesting to me as your's. But that desire
has received very little satisfaction notwithstanding my enquiries
amongst our common friends in addition to the too rare & scanty
tho' happily always favorable scraps of information furnished now &
then by the public prints.
x: in addition to the abovementioned short paper of mine which I
send in English & Spanish, I have a confession to make, & along with
it to send an atonement, or what at least I beg & hope to hear has
been accepted as such. The confession is — my having made use, but I
hope not misuse of a paper you were kind enough to deposit with
me & if I did not misconceive you give me: I mean the manuscript
having for its title "the Politics of Upper Canada", & light such as that
seemed to me much too valuable & useful to be hid under a bushel.
After gratifying this & that individual with a sight of it, it seemed to
me that for giving the most extensive diffusion in my power to its
utility, I could do nothing better than by offering it to the Monthly Mag. It
