Philadelphia 27. August 1823
Sir
The correspondence of our mutual friend
Mr. Rush has made me acquainted with your private
character, as the having read and admired many of
your publications had impressed me with great respect
for your political & philanthropical pursuits —
With this letter I have sent him for you some recent,
and I think curious & interesting, performances in
one of the United States, on subjects to which your
attention has been given — I beg you to receive them
as a token of the sincere respect in which your name
and good offices are held in a country, which will probably
be the first to act on your impressions
I remain
with great consideration
your
humble servant
C.I. Ingersoll
