Situated exactly as they are, thus are they in my
view of the matter, all nuisances, but as you may
have observed I have 11 good situations, offices of so
many sub-Ministries to dispose of. Taken singly
even, some of them will be no inconsiderable situations
and though without cumulation of emoluments according
to the Code, they might be occupied more
than one of them by the same individual: this in a
state taken at random & an account of comparative
smallness of territory and population, to the state
of Greece such cumulation might perhaps be found
particularly suitable. The possessorship of To occupy in totality integrality
one, tho' no more than one of those same situations w<hi rend="underline">d</hi>
it not be a better lot for a man, than the being a
fraction — a fifth part of the five bodied monster?
For my own part, to use a metaphor of Burke's I had
much rather be alone in a snug truckle bed such as every
one of the 11 above alluded to are, than to be crammed
into a bed where I sh<hi rend="underline">d</hi> find myself annoyed by 4
such nuisances tho' it were as big as the bed of Ware.
