days. Under this treatment, the skin seems to approach
to a state of calosity and freedom from morbid sensibility.
Sleep which used to be sadly broken, is now
never disturbed by it. The parts principally affected
by it, were and continue to be the breast bone, the
abdomen, the scrotum, and the inside of both sides. thighs.
The arms on the outside, in particular the fore arm,
as often as touched by the shirt or the nails for relief,
used to break out into very small red pimples,
and the inside of the arm at the bend, between the
arm and forearm, used to be very troublesome,
exhibiting large vesicles, which itched furiously
on being scratched. The red pimples have for several
months disceased toappeared, though the inside of the
arm has a constant tendency to a little itching,
which is effectually driven away by a few touches
of the hard brush. I could now without considerable
inconvenience, forbear altogether the use of it. I continue
it however, because the use of it is at the
time rather pleasurable than otherwise, and affords
