Logic or Ethics Ch Virtue

Subservient, and in that sense a certain sense in certain respects reducible to one or
more of the above three, with few or no exceptions will it is believed be found
every other moral quality the name of which has
even ever been considered as the name of a species
included under the genus designated by the term the terms virtuous and virtue.
A Prize virtues a Principal virtues — virtues of the first rank
virtues of the first order — by all both these several
names denominations may the above mentioned virtues here designated by the name of intrinsically valuable useful
virtues be occasionally designated.
Secondary virtues or virtues of the second
order or ancillary virtues — by these several
denominations may the all the whole tribe of virtues
[be designated] the value of which depends upon
their subservience to those primary primarily and intrinsically useful virtues be designated
