§.2. Account given of it by the Aristotelians.

Wonderful is are the of absurdity, and the of blindness the of self-
contradiction would you wish for in a curious instructive pattern
Turn to {Chapter 16} title Fortitude in the this Oxford Compend. p. 47.
The title of an act to the denomination of an act of fortitude:
what according to that mistake depen does it depend
upon? Upon the magnitude of the pain suffering which a man
continues voluntarily to endure? No such thing—Upon the
magnitude of or in other points respects upon the value of the
danger, i.e. the eventual suffering to which he voluntarily
exposes himself? No, nor that d neither.
Upon what then? Upon the nature of the occasion, on
which the suffering is endured or the
danger of it incurred: upon the nature of the occasion,
{viz. in respect of and upon the good fort or ill fortune which that
occasion has to be approved or not approved of in as
the character of a fit occasion for the purpose} and the
circumstance of its being regarded or not regarded seeking or not seeking the convenience by
the instructor to speak rank of it as among the number of
the occasions in which the exposure in question is
approved of.
