Plan of a Work intituled

Morality or Private Morality or Deontology

Shewing the connection between interest and duty throughout life
in every rank of life, independently of reference to the obligations of law.

Part I
Theory of Morality: or Morality considered in a theoretical
point of View — and independently of Law

Part II
Practical Morality: or Morality considered in a practical
point of view. See under leaf

Plan of Part I Theory of Morality
Morality — Order expressed by Deontology. Deontology then indicative
of what is proper to be done

All Deontology reducible to the practice of Virtue and avoidance
of Vice

All Virtues reduce are modifications of reducible to
Prudence on the one hand, or Benevolence and Beneficence on
the other All Vices to Imprudence, Malevolence and Maleficence

All other Virtues are either modifications of, or subservient
to the end, of, Prudence or Benevolence and Beneficence.

Beginning with stating the
Ground of this Division. The persons, whose interest each individual has
to consider are 1. himself: 2. all others in the lump

Self-regard — its predominance — universal existence of this from
dimin — its necessity to the existence of the species — Sympathy
for others its origin in self-regard: Yet in the instance
of no individual has it perhaps been ever altogether wanting the
proportion of its force to that of self-regard increases as mental no iteration
improvement increases

No inducements to Beneficence can either be created or be brought
to view, but through the medium of self-regarding Prudence.(a)

Division of Beneficence

(a) Memorm. In the Practical part this topic had perhaps better be omitted,
unless it be advisable to insert it, for the purpose of promoting indulgence
to others, and checking ungrounded and not probably fulfillable or
expectation of self-sacrificing benefits at their hands
