quarrel with the Dogma grew from his observation of the purposes
to which it was turned in order to justify Law-abuses, - & to oppose
the most necessary reforms in the administration of justice. The
Dogma had been introduced into the world under the sanction of
John Locke's great name - but before Bentham had attained the
age of 16, he was disgusted while sitting at the feet of
Blackstone by the use which that smooth sophist made of it in his
lectures for the justification of the abominations of misrule. "I

"I determined to fling it to the ground - I did so - & no
man has since ventured to raise it up - & give support to it."
