be habitually kept in view, — and to this end

The sure way to keep it from slipping out of mind is in its expression of
every maxim subordinate to it, to let its relation to it that maxim be seen. — Let it not be thought Not to think it
sufficient that the reason assigned for a law practice is in itself conformable to this
principle — but let such unless such conformity be expressed upon the face of it, and brought forward contrary habitually surely often and brought forward
into view for examination & approval.

This is the only expedient to prevent persons not sufficiently imbued
with the principle, from drawing consequences from the reason in question as it stands being led astray by the despotic dogmas of asceticism — or

the undoubted sympathies of a miscalcluating & misdirected benevolence, let the moralist
