shipping; — of Tonnage 2.180.042, so that the British Tonnage

that there are about 1/12th of the whole; — and nearly the same
proportion enter for the Export Trade. (Appendix, G.G.)

Of Foreign Vessels trading with England, the number being
5.359, — more than 1/6th are French; — of Tonnage, the amount
being 758.282, — 1/16th part is French; — of Men, 41.670, so that about

The produce to the Customs,of the whole of the imports from
Europe into England, is above 40 per cent on the official value; the
amount being, for 1831, Seven Millions one hundred and eighty
thousand Pounds Sterling, and the Duties received, more than
six Millions and three quarters. (Appendix E.E.) — But of these
six and three quarters Millions, the Imports from France
produce nearly Five Millions (£1.947.173... &c.); so that while
the amount of Imports from France is only about one sixth of
the whole amount of European articles imported, that sixth in
amount produces two sevenths of the Revenue, or nearly double
the average amount of Custom House Duties levied; and considerably
more than double the amount of Duty levied on the whole imported
produce of any other country. The produce of Russia, whence
a value of £4.696.371 is imported, gives only £748.007 — In the
amount of Imports, the different countries stand in the following
order. 1.c Russia
