Effective Benevolence – Position
Active Efficient benevolence when in action may be considered the
Gymnastics of the mind – The field in which it is displayed
the mental gymnasium. Like the gymnastics of the
body they will not only give enjoyment but strength.
Enjoyment in this exercise of strength from their calling
into greater activity the moral & intellectual faculties, leaving
Their different them to the rigor & of habitual exertion. The
interest & general object is to use strengthen satisfy the mind in order
that it may better guide the affections to virtue – the direct
& particular purpose is one every any given occasion
so to influence conduct as that a result of happiness may
be the consequence of the particular individual action in question
