Instructed in this planOn this occasion does the learner find a difficulty
in comprehending the import of the word in question
thus consumed in that general and abstract from which
the nature of the case requires? There has this diagram
provided for aiding him in the world of conception. Then
is the general rule, and there is the exemplification
of it. What is here meant is not that no such particular
figures should be employed but that the instruction
should not be confinedconfine itself to that suretyand inadequate portion of information which alone
can, in any direct way, be conveyed by any such particular
figure, unaccompanied as above by the suitable assemblage of apt general
words by general words expressive of the frame of
reasoning meant to be imprinted in the mind.

Diagram occasionally discarding principle -
By the word occasionally, thus inserted in the composition
of this one, of the names, be employed for the
designation of this principle, intimation is given, that
upon the ordinary diagrammatical i.e. the ordinary mode
of designation no permanent exclusion is proposed to be part:
that it is in aid, and not in lieu, of this ordinary
mode, that the new proposed - the purely
verbal mode - is proposed to be employed. put. So far is
any such constant exclusion of the diagrammatical
mode intended, that, by conjunction with this modethe principle mentioned in the
third place, this purely diagrammatical mode or, to some
purposes, [+}proposed to be employed by itself:by itself and thereby [+] by means of a
set of adapted
signs.
