A proposition which has in any shape both as abovehas a physical
use, the use will be found exemplified either in some branch or branchesof
physics, physical art and science i.e. of Natural Philosophy as it is so commonly
though unaptly called. or in the doctrine of probabilities. Of these branches see a last though not
exactly a compleat one see the list in Tab. 1. III

A propositi Will Williams having any immediate
application to any branch of physics as above and therefore
without having any immediate use, a proposition may
still have a practical use. If it has, the use may
in this latter case be termed a preparatory use.

Such preparatory use may by any number
of degrees or stages be removed from the immediate
use. SoThe preparation is in question of no use but in respect of
its being necessary to the demonstration of another, that other
is of no use but in respect of its being necessary to
the demonstration of a third: let a series of this sort be 18 or 3
