No greater sweetener
of labour, than
indication of use
No branch of learning
which stands more
in need of such a
sweetener than mathematics
The labours whether of body or mind, there exists
not any more effectual sweetener than the indication of
use, and a particular intrinsic use. That branch of
useful not or is scarcely to be found, in which
for the acquisition of the instinction it affords labour
of mind more intense, or in chief more or extensive, is
necessary as in mathematics is necessary is scarcely
to be found.
In the existing mode, the manner of administration 22 or 7

the instruction is fate of fragment with proof perplexity
to the learner, and no such indicationinformation as above is
employed to it. In the new proposed mode

will be found it as before much less perplexing
and in the indication of the practical use of the labour
will find its natural education, the indication of the
ard naturally attached in it.
