Take any object body - a billiard ball for example - that
as intended to be spherical. Assuredly it is not exactly spherical.
Of all the geometricalpropositions which have the sphere for their
subject then is not one of them that is exactly truethat can without altogether
without errorwhen applied to it. But it is so near to the being
spherical, that all those propositions may without
any error material error be applied to it.

Among a number of Billiard Balls all perfectly
capable of being applied to the use for which they were
designed some will come nearer to an exactly spherical
figure than others. The nearer any one comes to that
figure, the nearer in that instance will these several
propositions come to the being exactly true.
