In the case of Algebra in the branch of Mathematics
Algebra two sorts of operation in themselves perfectly
distinct may be distinguished: viz. 1. the system of abbreviation the mode of designation
and the system of contrivance for the purpose of performing<add>principle</add>or expression, and the contrivance or species
the search particular operations, for the facilitation of which the system same of investigation employed in the resolutionanswering of questions of problems, system of abbreviation

species of short hand: differing only from the sort
