The savings mode Multifarious as well as extensive great
are the savings made by the mode of notation employed
in algebra. As far as it goes the following may serve as a
specimen

those of most frequent occurrence - such as those of addition,
subtraction &c it employs so many marks
in a great degree more simple

2. To of an assemblage of figures i.e. the common arabic characters
expressive of the names of numbers - characters which of themselves
constitute are a species of short hand to exp an assemblage
of this sort, howsoever long and complicated it substitutes
or it performs the function it expresses the import office by means of a single
letter of the alphabet
3. Where the assemblage of these abridgments of
abridgments are present themselves as being with advantage susceptible of
ulterior abridgment, it toof a line of any
length composed with or without figure of letters it performs the function office it
expresses the import by means of a single letter: and
so to his quotes
