The lateness of their discovery would be no objection —
The higher branches of the Mathematics are of
& very late discovery — and yet were there who would
scruple to reject it any proposition of Scripture
that was found to be contradicted by
any demonstration in the Mathematics?
The earth, says the Scripture in many places, is fixed —
Now this is not true — It is round the
Sun — This we know from observations; &
these observations are recent. We disbeleive had no difficulty in disbeleiving from observations that are yet these parts of Scripture while we believe
others the rest
Able divines by distinguishing between
inspiration simpliciter & inspiration secundum
quid have shewn us how it is that
disagreement to truth in matters like these not common
that are foreign to its design is no proof of disagreement
to truth in matters which come without
it.
