Whether binding
upon Conscience.

of that sort which comes more immediately from God, is the only sort men
in general, as far as they are agreed about the use of
the word, [conscience] or at least that our author, will speak of
as being binding upon conscience. If It is the nature
of the will (that is of man in the business of volition)
to be governed by motives and by nothing else but
motives.] Motives are the expectation idea of pain andor
pleasure. If to the same faculty, Will, men
will give the term conscience, when they speak
of it as being acted acted on by pain or pleasure
expected from above causes that are invisible, which they refuse to it when
spoken of, as being acted on by pain and pleasure

help for it, there is no help for it. There is no harm
in it, when it is known to be a question but
