accordingly: if less, that in that case, the
reserved part as above be charged with a
proportionable sum or annuity to be paid
by them to the use of the Parish or Parishes.
N.B. The profession of the satisfaction
reserved in kind seems more competent to
the situation of the Dean & Chapter than
to that of the Parish or Parishes.
1. Because the management & improvement
of Land seems a function better adapted
to the condition of a small & permanent
body, such as the Dean & Chapter, than to
that of a numerous & in some measure
fluctuating body, such as the Vestries, select
as they are, by which the business of the Parish
as is conducted.
2. Because the Dean & Chapter are in the
habit of that sort of management, & are
provided with fit & permanent Officers for
the purpose: which can scarcely be said to
be the case at all, at any rate not in nearly
equal degree, in the instance of the Parishes.
3. Because, supposing the land in
the hands of the Dean & Chapter, the proper
object in view in the management of such
concerns, the improvement of the fund
in question for the benefit of the principals,
is likely to be effectually provided for, to the
exclusion of all bye-interests: whereas supposing
