Ch 1. Posology in general
§. 2 Uses

1 1

Ch 1 Uses of posology considered in its totality
§. 2. Its uses

3
Usefulness Uses of unapplied
is not d correspond with those of applied
posology.

4 3
Of unapplied posology the usefulness will be in proportion to
the usefulness of the several branches of applied posology to which
it is applicable and the degree of usefulness of the application made of
it or capable of being made of it to these several branches

Supposing then all these bran these several branches of applied
posology all of them useless so would the wh in its totaly
would be this same unapplied posology

4 2
So many branches as
there are of mixt mathematics
so many
classes are there of the
uses of pure mathematics

Moreover so far as any part whatsoever portion of the
matter of it — the matter actual or possible of which no such application
is capable of being made the same is the matter
to which the property of uselessness can not be claimed to belong

5
Take away the uses
of mixt mathematics
those of pure mathematics
are equal to 0.

5 6
Take away the uses of mixt mathematics, those of pure
mathematics are equal to 0 and fall to the ground.

1
Posology has hitherto
appeared useless and
painful to learn

2 4 1
As it In the manner in which it has been taught
in books, posology in general, the geometrical branch
in particular presents to the minds of learners in general —
more especially to you young and little-instructed ones,
the idea of a useless object or subject matter of study,
by which a is produced for much and highly
painful mental labour, to which no recompense in any shape is
attached

3.
Uses of Geometry much
more remote from
early observation than
of arithmetic.

3 2
Of Geometry, the uses how real so ever, stand
much more remote from early observation than arithmetic
in all some of its branches — that is to say those which are
earliest and most extensive extensively in uses
