4 Decr 1821.
W.E.L. to J. B. Q.S. P.

I called yesterday ineffectually from
Mr Rey, but this morning he has been here
and the result of the interview is as follows —

A Mr St Marc and another frenchman, established
about 8 months ago at No 10 Ratcliffe Row
a manufactory of liqueurs of every description.
The manufactory, it appears, was profitable,
but a large quantity of their liqueurs, which
had been deposited with some other person
for sale, was seized either for taxes due
from, or a breach of the excise laws committed
by that other person — I could not determine
which — Their capital being small, this
loss ruined them, and Their plant is now
to be sold for account of the creditors, who
demand for it — including all necessary utensils —
£150. Mr Ray’s father was a manufacturer
