With respect to Mr. Place — I think he has not used
us well, & whether we see his boys again or not I do
not much care. But I am most anxious that nothing
should arise to shake the good opinion which Mr. Bentham
has hitherto entertained of us & I am so confident of the
excellence of our plans, & of their successful operation, that
I should court the most minute investigation of the
progress of the Places in particular & of the School in
general. Mr. Fry is a scholar himself — His great
anxiety for his son's improvement, has induced him to
examine the boy repeatedly. He is I believe well acquainted
with the state of the boy's information when he
came among us, & if Mr. Bentham would have the kindness
to examine the boy as to the present state of his
acquirements, we shall most willingly bear the expence
of his journey to & from London, I do not doubt of
obtaining the father's consent for such a measure —
