As to Books, the length of my list
would depend upon the cost of the aggregate.
The less I paid for each, the
more money I c<hi rend="underline">d</hi> afford to lay out
with U.S. Booksellers. Neither this
charge nor the expence of freight
should I grudge. But what I do grudge
heartily is the enormous importation
tax laid upon them by this government;
a tax of which I cannot help regarding
prohibition to have been the object, as
well as & perhaps more than, revenue.
Your whole library might have come
