5.2 C Of Defraudment by false standards

[(B) Quality] Thus the touchstone is a standard colour and thence
of purity in gold: the instrument called the hydrometer ,
of specific gravity and thence of purity or genuineness
in fermented spirits and other liquors.

Instructions to the Legislator

The nature of the instruments which may be
made use of to serve as standards of quality with respect in bodies
will be indefinitely various, according to the natures of
those bodies respectively , and according to such of their the qualities of
each of them has as there happens to be occasion for
putting to the test. Different bodies require different
standards. Diff In reqards to some of the standards may

may be of such a nature that it may be in
the power of the legislator to do something towards ascertaining
