2 C Treason

3 What is not Treason but Rebellion [(b) Intention of benefiting] If what he does is with an
intention of benefiting the State, his offence is not
Treason but Rebellion.

It may Such may appear to have been his design
intention if there be on foot any complaint of real or
pretended grievances in the administration of the Sovereign, and his contention be to make
the assistance afforded or diversion created by the
foreign state in question subservient to the redressing
of such grievances.

Or any dispute concerning the title to the sovereignty
or any branch thereof and his intention
be by means of such foreign force to support
the title of a pretender.

A person obstinately refusing to give intelligence of the designs &c of the enemy , how to be compelled. If having it in his power to communicate
any such intelligence he[see Art .....] he obstinately refutes
so to do when lawfully commanded
the following methods may any or all of them be taken to compel him
1. He may be imprisoned.
2. He may be dieted in a dark dungeon
3. In case of urgent extreme necessity, where the urgency
of the occasion admits not of any delay,
he may be put to the torture.
