Of favouring Desertion
Desertion, what Desertion Desertion is where a man being inlisted as
a soldier or a sailor in the service mong the forces maintained by authority of the state
voluntarily quits the service before the lawful time thereof is expired.
For the punishment of deserters See the Army and
the Navy Laws.
Punishment for assisting or favouring persuading or favouring a desertion. Any one who knowing a man to be a Soldier engaged
or a sailor in the service as a soldier or a sailor
voluntarily and without excuse assists him in deserting shall be punished
as if he had stolen a sum equal to the
greatest sum value (a) of his service.
2 So, if without excuse (b) he be knowingly instrumental in screening him from
detection or pursuit.
