Some might indeed be disposed to give a different
Sense to the Word "Taking" by considering it as already
accomplished at an earlier; period as for instance — as soon as
the Hand was laid upon the Subject: but tho' this
Circumstance should serve for an Epoch in most Cases
where the taking was in the direct manner, yet
would it not in all, nor does it obtain in the
indirect and it would be endless to assign particular
Epochs in such other Circumstances as might be
fixed upon for that purpose in lieu of it: The
proof of which Observations, in order to avoid endless
Details I must leave to the Sagacity of the Reader

But which ever of these Senses be the preferable, the
Impropriety consists not so much in adopting of
the wrong one, as in discoursing of the Diversity the term as it is of
either of them with the Act as is directed by as if the difference between these
& the carrying away, as if it were manifest and notorious.

# I mean in the ordinary Course of sense of the Word,
and not in the mere legal, in which as we have
just hinted it is confounded with "taking"
