For the avoidance of doubts & of prolixity, the
following interpretations shall throughout this
Statute be observed:

SPECIES how named

In Animals, A denomination applied in common speech to
the species at large, shall include the entire
species of whatsoever Sex, Age, or Condition
as Ox shall stand for Bull Cow or Calf, &
so forth; Horse for Mare Gelding Colt so forth.

III SEX

Mr. Barrington [v obsrv. in the Stat p467 3rd Oct] as indicators treats the specifications which this expression is calculated to supersede.
In persons, The Male Sex shall include the Female, where what is said is
acceptable to both

IV NUMBER

Universally, the Plural number shall include

V MONTH

By Month shall be understood Calendar Month

VI CARRIAGES of Passage

Carriages of Passage are such as are constructed
principally for the conveyance of Passengers

VII CARRIAGES of Burthen

Carriages of Burthen, are such as are by their constructed
principally are calculated for the conveyance of Goods:
Such as are Carts & Waggons, although used occasionally
for Passengers

VIII CARTS. WAGGONS

Carts are such Carriages of Burthen as have
Lar 2 or 3 Wheels only: Waggons are such as
have 4 or more [Qu of Carriages upon Rollers?

IX PRIVATE Carriages Private

Private Carriages are such whether of Passage
or of Burthen, as one has for his own private
use, not in the way of Traffic.

X PUBLIC Carriages Public

Publc Carriages are such whether of Passage or
of Burthen as one uses in the way of Traffic.

XI CARRIAGES NARROW WHEELED Waggons

Narrow wheeled Carriages, are such, any of whose
Wheels are less than 9 inches.

XII CARRIAGES BROAD-WHEELED Carriages

Broad - wheeled Carriages are such, all of whose Wheels
ar of less than 9 inches and or upward.

XIII WHEELS how named

A 9 - Inch Wheel is such one that hath the Tally or
circumference of the breadth of 9 inches on the
sole or outside f so of the rest. A 6 Inch Wheel which has it
of 6 Inches, & so on.

XIV CARRIAGES rolling 16 Inches

Carriages rolling 16 Inches are such Broad-wheeled Carriages <add>ff2 </add> as by one
or several pair of Wheels roll an continued path
on each side of the width of 16 Inches at the
least: having the Wheels of one pair as the <add>at the distancet by of</add> not less than 4
Feet 2 Inches from each other, to be measured on the ground.
