1 Subornation is by allurement or coercion
Motives, according to the influence of a is the event by the prospect
of which they are constituted, according as it is of the
beneficial kind or the mischievous, pernicious are of two kinds,
alluring or coërcive: alluring, when that influence
is beneficial; coërcive, when pernicious.
According to this distinction, subord subornation is
also of two kinds: subornation by allurement, and

2 Subornation with a double aspect
It is evident that subornation may act in
both ways at once; by allurement and by coercion
both together: holding out benefit in case the conduct
which the subornation is calculated to produce be
observed; detriment, in case it be not observed. In
this case the subornation acts with double force: and
the interest which it creates may be stiled a double
interest or an interest with a double aspect.
